Every November, people search for gift ideas for dads, teenagers, coffee lovers, colleagues and people who have everything. Gift guide videos meet that demand, and they are one of the most practical things a creator or small shop can make for the season. The ones that perform well are focused, honest and easy to act on.

Pick a specific audience

"Best gifts of 2026" competes with everyone. "Gifts under 30 for someone who works from home" or "gifts for new runners" is far easier to make useful and to find. Choose one person or situation per video.

Choose fewer items

Five to ten items is plenty for a long video; three to five for short-form. For each one, you should be able to say why it is a good gift, not just what it is.

A repeatable structure for each item

  1. Name and price range.
  2. Who it is for. One line.
  3. Why it works as a gift. The real reason.
  4. One honest caveat, if there is one.

"Number three: a stovetop espresso pot, around 25 dollars. It is perfect for someone who loves coffee but does not want a big machine. The one caveat: it takes a little practice to get right, so pair it with good beans."

The caveat is what makes viewers trust the rest of your list.

Open and close well

  • Open with who the guide is for and the price range: "Ten gifts under 30 for the person who works from home. Every one of them, I have used myself." Our list of video hooks for the first 3 seconds has more openers.
  • Close with the shipping reminder and where to find the links.

Disclose clearly

If you use affiliate links or received any products free, say so in the video and in the description. In the US, the FTC explains the rules in its guide for creators, Disclosures 101 for Social Media Influencers. Other countries have similar rules. Clear disclosure also builds trust with viewers.

Script it, then batch record

Write the full script with all items before recording, so the tone and length stay consistent. Record each item as a separate clip, which makes reordering and cutting easy. If you have several guides to make, record them in one session; see batch record holiday content.

A phone prompter helps with the details: prices, product names and the caveat for each item. In Cue, you can split the script into sections with # headings, one per gift, so it is easy to find your place between clips.

Post early

Publish from early November, before shipping deadlines bite. Update the description with any price changes or sold-out items. A short version for Shorts or Reels, three picks in under a minute, can drive viewers to the full guide. See repurpose a long video into shorts.

When should I post a holiday gift guide?
