How to Record an Investor Pitch Video That Gets a Meeting
Many investors and accelerators ask for a short pitch video. How to script and record a two-minute founder pitch that is clear, credible and memorable.
In this guide
Accelerator applications and many investors ask for a short founder video. It is often the first time they hear your voice and see how you communicate. A clear, well-structured two minutes can be the difference between a meeting and a pass.
What investors look for
- Can the founder explain the business simply?
- Is the problem real and important?
- Why this team?
- Is there evidence of progress?
Your script should answer all four.
A two-minute structure
- Who you are (10 seconds): name, company, one-line description.
- Problem (20 seconds): who has it and why it matters.
- Solution (20 seconds): what you do, in plain words.
- Traction (20 seconds): users, revenue, pilots or milestones.
- Market (15 seconds): how big the opportunity is.
- Team (15 seconds): why you are the right people.
- Ask (10 seconds): what you are raising or applying for.

Lead with clarity
Avoid jargon and buzzwords. If a smart friend outside your industry could not repeat your one-line description, rewrite it. "We help small restaurants cut food waste by predicting daily orders" is better than "We leverage AI to optimise supply chains in hospitality".
Show numbers simply
One or two strong numbers land better than a list. "Thirty paying restaurants, growing 20 percent a month" is memorable. Read numbers slowly.
Founders on camera
If there are co-founders, keep it simple. One person can lead, with others introducing themselves briefly, or each covers one section. Practise the handovers.
Record it well
- Face a window or soft light. See ring light vs window light.
- Use a clip-on mic. See choosing a microphone.
- Frame from mid-chest up, at eye level. See camera height and framing.
Read naturally
A pitch delivered from memory often sounds stiff, and one improvised often runs long. Read from a teleprompter near the lens so you look at the investor while staying on script. See how to sound natural reading a script.
Keep it confidential
Pitch scripts often contain numbers you would not share widely. Cue keeps scripts and recordings on your device, with no account or cloud sync. See offline teleprompter privacy.
Watch it as an investor
Before sending, watch it once as if you were seeing 50 pitches that day. Is the problem clear in the first 30 seconds? Is the ask clear at the end? Cut anything that does not help.
Frequently asked questions
How long should a pitch video be?
Usually one to two minutes, or whatever the application specifies. Respect the limit strictly.
Should the pitch video be scripted?
Yes. A tight script makes sure you cover the essentials. Deliver it naturally from a teleprompter so it does not sound memorised.
Does the video need to be professionally produced?
No. Clear audio, good light and a confident delivery matter far more than production value.
